Nightshade - The Beginning Of Eradication
Formed in 2005 in France, Nightshade releases their first full length on Rising Records after two EPs and a demo record. Let’s find out if they have something to offer in the area of melodic death metal.
Nightshade offers a nice variety of death metal. On one side they pack a lot of brutality with mid-tempo grooves, fast blasts and some deathcore like stuff in the vein of Despised Icon and such. On the other side there are some melodies here and there which make the songs more dynamic. Unfortunately it doesn’t make the songs better as well, for I find most of those parts quite boring and unappealing.
Luckily the band saves itself a bit with having some great breakdowns and intense blasting, giving brutality the upper hand on this album. Adding to that are the typical death metal brutal grunt vocals and nasty screams. Personally I can’t really say this band will make it into my collection for I find not much originality in Nightshade’s death metal, but for the average death metal head it’s a good record to play in the background. Nothing really special.
